Science
Discover Primary Science
Junior Infants to Sixth class are taught Science using a child centered approach. As a school we participate in the Discover Primary Science and Maths Programme and have been presented with a school plaque each year for the past sixteen years.
One of the highlights in the school calendar is Science Week and indeed the Science Open Day. Children from 5th and 6th classes prepare science experiments with their teachers and explain these science experiments and the science behind them to the school community .
Senior pupils participate in the Galway Science and Technology Festival in NUIG each year. This is a fun and engaging project that the children derive much knowledge and enjoyment from.
Galway Science Festival
As part of the Galway Science Festival scientists visit our school and carry out workshops with the children each year. Over the years we have had workshops with Cell Explorers, Sue McGrath and Craig the Mad Scientist and the children have thoroughly enjoyed these experiences. These also motivate children toward the sciences. Children also participate annually in the Galway Science and Technology Festival in NUIG. Children learn much through participating in this fun and enjoyable project.
