For Parents

A Message from the Principal

We extend a warm welcome to you to our school website. We hope that it will give you an insight into school life at Gaelscoil Mhic Amhlaigh and all it entails. It is our aim to provide the best standard of education through the medium of Irish for the children of Knocknacarra and surrounding areas and to develop our heritage/culture in conjunction with the full development of the child through their education. We create a happy, cheerful, cultural environment in the school for children because we believe that when children feel happy and secure it strengthens their ability to learn. We aim to ensure that each child will achieve his/her full potential in our new school’s pleasant and stimulating learning environment taking into consideration that each child is unique in ability and need.

Our vision for the children of our school is that they would feel safe, accepted and happy in their school environment, that they would feel understood and secure in the knowledge that they are recognised as wonderful individuals regardless of ability, that they would be ambitious for themselves and their peers, that they would have a sense of self and cultural identity and that they would be developing respect for themselves and others. Since the foundation of our school, we have always placed a huge emphasis on creating a strong sense of community in our school amongst all partners. We have a very open and co-operative relationship with parents and we encourage them to participate in all school activities and in school life. We recognise the importance of working together as equal partners in order to give our children the best educational experience that is possible.

I hope that you enjoy browsing through our new website.

Parents Association

The Gaelscoil Mhic Amhlaigh parents association is a very welcoming and committed group of parents who are actively involved in many aspects of school life.

The committee is made up of parents of children of junior infants through to 6th class so the whole school is represented with a new committee elected each year. They strive to ensure all parents who wish to have the opportunity to get involved in some way.

The Parents’ Association hold their meetings in the school every 6 weeks and works with the principal, staff and the board of management in playing a meaningful role in supporting the aims and objectives of the school.

The committee along with help from other parents run events such as our very popular annual table quiz fundraiser and our fantastic Christmas fair. They are involved in organising and conducting active week as well as providing support for the school on many important occasions, offering refreshments on school open days, grandparents day, school celebrations and graduation nights. The committee along with support from the National Parents Council organise guest speakers on topics relevant to modern day parenting such as cyber bullying and healthy eating.

The parents association is always looking for new members, volunteers or exciting new ideas or initiatives, so if you are interested please come along to the AGM, class information evenings or get in touch through the school office.

Many thanks for all your support.
